NOTICE: About references 2 through 5: our sample questions will not include content from these legal codes. Many sections of these codes DO NOT apply to this license and are written for administrative purposes (such as health regulations). Without having a specific list of sub-sections that ProV is using for questions, it would be impossible for us to write sample questions It is not clear in the ProV bulletin whether or not these codes are provided during the exam. It's usually a good idea to find out BEFORE you take the exam whether or not you are expected to print out your own copies of these codes.
The books listed below are NOT allowed at the exam location
We recommend that you purchase one of the reference books above to study for your exam. Each book is a comprehensive subject index to the NEC. They provide an even faster way to look up answers in the code and are far more detailed than the index at the end of the code book.
Reference #2 above contains practical applications of the NEC such as Ohm‘s Law, series/parallel circuits, voltage drop, load calculations, motor phases, impedance, inductance and math formulas you are expected to know. “Basic Knowledge” is covered in the exam but detailed subjects are assumed and not specifically called out in the bulletin.
A good “calculations” book where you can drill yourself repeatedly is always a good way to remember the most basic math procedures. Generally, you won't have time during an exam to search for these procedures in a book.
Sample questions are sourced from the 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC) and the 2017/2020 versions of Ugly's References. A subject category index mapped to question numbers is included with the answer key.
Bookmarks have been added to help the user randomly jump to specific questions related to NEC articles in the code.
