We are aware that Idaho DOPL is transitioning to the new PSI testing availablity. They may still be using their “in-house” exams which is based on an older version of the NEC (2017 no longer offered). Before you purchase any books or schedule your exam, be sure you know which version of the exam you will be assigned.
The official exam bulletin is published and maintained by PSI. Bulletin content (subjects covered in the exam) and file names for PDFs change regularly. Always set your “favorite” or “bookmark” to the landing page we have linked above. Candidates should always review the current exam information on the PSI website before applying or testing.
NOTE: You have the choice of using either version of the NEC above, 1a or 1b, for your study material. DO NOT PURCHASE BOTH the NEC base code AND the Handbook.
QUESTION: "What is the difference between the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Handbook version?". As far as the actual NEC code quoted in the text... it's the same.
The NEC Handbook has additional diagrams, graphics and explanations inserted into the text (adding more pages). It was designed for engineers and inspectors. The typical exam candidate should not use it as a preferred reference.
An exam study guide WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON
